Addis Ababa, January 3, 2025.- Members of the Cuban State Mission, solidarity associations in Ethiopia, and the embassies of Nicaragua and Venezuela today celebrated the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
The occasion was propitious to welcome the ambassadors of Havana appointed in Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez, and to the African Union, Lucas Domingo Hernández, who conveyed a greeting on behalf of the Cuban people and gratitude to the Ethiopians trained in the country (Ethiopian Cubans) for the constant demonstrations of solidarity.
Suárez said that in 2025 both countries will commemorate 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations, while advancing the preparation of a day of activities on the occasion of the anniversary on July 18.
She stressed that the first activity in the African nation was with the Ethiopian Cubans because they represented the values of the Cuban Revolution that triumphed on January 1, 1959. She recalled that 2024 was a difficult year for Cubans due to the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government, including the persecution of those who wanted to carry out commercial operations with the largest of the Antilles.
Despite the difficult panorama, she stressed, the people of Cuba have resisted and are willing to pay the price that is necessary for not surrendering to this unilateral and extraterritorial measure.
Ambassador Hernández, for his part, commented that the Ethiopians trained in Havana are children of their homeland because they were born there, but they are also Cubans because they were educated in the Caribbean country and represent love, solidarity and understanding between peoples.
The president of the Association of Friendship between the Peoples of Ethiopia and Cuba, Abebe Ayalew, assured that the more than five thousand graduates of the island are also Cuban ambassadors and reiterated support for the government and people of that country.
The Consular Officer of the Cuban Mission, Natalys Dinza, took the opportunity to deliver the resolution that grants Cuban citizenship to the child, Matthew Gebresenbet.
