Port of Spain, August 14.- The headquarters of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission in Trinidad and Tobago served as the venue for an emotional ceremony in honour of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the occasion of the 92nd anniversary of his birth.
The ceremony attended by fifty people was chaired by the Cuban ambassador, Guillermo Vázquez Moreno, accompanied by members and workers of the Cuban diplomatic mission and the medical brigade that works in that Caribbean nation. Also present were prominent Trinidadian personalities such as the political leader of the Movement for Social Justice, David Abdulah, as well as representatives of solidarity movements with Cuba, trade unions and other social movements, Cuban residents, among others.
The moving event was attended by several speakers who highlighted the value and legacy of the work and thought of the Leader of the Cuban Revolution for the progressive movements of the planet and its impact on the history of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The program of the event included several cultural moments dedicated to the Commander, among them the projection of audiovisual materials of Cuban artists dedicated to their political leader.
The leader of the MSJ, David Abdulah, took advantage of his speech to describe his meetings with the prominent Cuban politician and highlight his tireless actions in favour of Latin American and Caribbean unity, especially the interest and importance that the Cuban leader awarded to the Caribbean integration; the movements and mechanisms of regional coordination.
In his words, the Cuban Ambassador highlighted the trajectory of Fidel from the beginning of his political life in favour of the fight against inequality and the search for social justice in his country, for which he mentioned passages such as Moncada, Granma, fight in the Sierra Maestra, literacy campaigns and agrarian reforms and their leadership against the imperialist campaigns against the island. For its part, the head of the medical brigade, Dr. Laura González, highlighted her role in the promotion and formation of values of solidarity and internationalism in Cuban society and highlighted several of the most well-known episodes of Cuban revolutionary altruism in different corners of the planet.
The Embassy of Cuba used the occasion to exhibit several photos with moments of Fidel's life, which together with the songs of Cuban songwriters created an excellent atmosphere of commemoration of such a significant event for the Cuban nation and the world.
