Acting Prime Minister of Fiji receives the Cuban Ambassador

Suva, February 22. The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji, Honorable Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, received the Cuban Ambassador to this country, José Manuel Galego Montano. In a cordial atmosphere, both interlocutors reviewed the status of the main issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as others of regional and international interest.

 

The also Attorney General and Minister of Economy, underlined the existing potential to strengthen cooperation between both countries, on issues of common interest, especially the confrontation with climate change, the protection of the oceans and the environment.

 

On his side, the diplomatic representative reiterated his gratitude for Fiji's permanent support for the Cuban resolution against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. The Ambassador called for the expansion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in Fiji and other countries in the area, taking into account the common challenges faced by Small Island Developing States.

 

Honorable Saiyed-Khaiyum and Ambassador Galego agreed on the need to continue developing the fraternal ties that unite both countries. Cuba and Fiji celebrate this year the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
