Commemorative activities continue for the 73rd anniversary of the defeat of fascism. Today, a tribute was paid to the 17,000 Red Army soldiers who died at the Battle of Vienna in April 1945, which ended the Nazi occupation in Austria.
The events began at the Central Cemetery in Vienna and continued at the Red Army Soldiers' Memorial, on the Schwarzenbergplatz, in the center of the city. At the base of the 12-meter-high statue are inscribed the words of the poet Sergei Michaelkow: "Monument to the soldiers of the Soviet army, who gave their lives to liberate Austria from fascism ...". With great emotion the participants salute the veterans of the Soviet Army.
