Addis Ababa, February 22, 2023. The Cuban ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Jorge Lefebre Nicolás, gave an interview to the Ethiopian television station Addis Media Network, at the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy. During the meeting with this media, the diplomat offered a historical tour from the beginnings of the Cuban Revolution to the present and stressed the struggle of his people, for more than six decades, to overcome the attacks of the iron blockade imposed by the United States that impacts all spheres of the lives of Cubans.
"In these decades, the Cuban economy and with it all spheres of society have suffered equally the impact of sanctions and coercive measures of all kinds imposed by the US blockade and which have constituted a serious obstacle to the development of the country. To the restrictions on the exchange of goods and services with the United States, the systematic efforts of the US administrations to boycott Cuba's commercial and financial ties with third countries have been added, in an extraterritorial application of this blockade," said the Ambassador.
He also highlighted the broad ties of friendship that unite the history of Ethiopia and Cuba, as well as that of the Caribbean island with the African continent, and thanked the support provided by Ethiopians in multilateral forums and events, highlighting the solidarity position towards Cuba in the UNGA and the African Union.
