Vietnamese newspaper Tuoi Tre recently underlined that Cuba is about to achieve an extraordinary achievement in the global race for COVID-19 vaccines.
When informing that the Caribbean country would begin the third phase trials of the Sovereign-02 vaccine, the media stressed that this scientific success is obtained despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for decades and the increase in sanctions under the term of former President Donald Trump.
Soberana 02 entered the third phase of trials on March 1st, with the participation of tens of thousands of volunteers over the course of several weeks.
With the development of Soberana 02, Cuban biotechnology is giving much hope to the underdeveloped countries of the southern hemisphere, said Tuoi Tre, citing expert opinions.
If Soberana 02 is safe and effective, this achievement will make Cuba the first Latin American country to be able to vaccinate the population against COVID-19 with a national vaccine, the article said.
Likewise, Tuoi Tre emphasized that Soberana 02, unlike other vaccines against COVID-19, does not require special refrigeration, which facilitates its storage and transport in countries with fewer resources.
The newspaper mentioned that some countries such as Iran, Venezuela, and several African nations have been interested in Cuban vaccines.
