The African Union adopts resolution rejecting the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba

Addis Ababa, February 19, 2023.  For the fourteenth consecutive time, the 36th Assembly of the African Union, composed of African Head of States and Governments, adopted a resolution on the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Republic of Cuba by the United States of America.

The text reaffirms its full support for the Resolution adopted annually by the United Nations General Assembly on this subject and expresses its deep concern at the continued implementation of this policy.  It also regrets the measures implemented by the Government of the United States since 9 November 2017, which reinforce the blockade, and expresses its deep concern at the extension of its extraterritorial nature.

The African Union also regrets the setback in bilateral relations between Cuba and USA and once again urges the Government of the United States to lift the prolonged and unjustifiable economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed on the Cuban people.
