On Monday, June 29, the Joint Meeting of the 20th Political Council and the 10th Economic Council of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) took place.
The event was held on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of Petrocaribe, an opportunity in which a plan for its revitalization was approved as part of the Alliance's commitment to energy security in the region.
The meeting took place via videoconference and was attended by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment on behalf of our country.
Foreign ministers and economic authorities from the ALBA-TCP countries took part in the meeting and approved the Post-Pandemic Economic Contingency Plan focused on the agreement of actions to face the negative economic and social impacts caused by the pandemic.
The promotion of programmes linked to health and food production and financial stability were also topics addressed at the meeting.
Cuba ratified the commitment expressed by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, during his participation in the ALBA-TCP High Level Conference, held last 10 June, to provide our modest contribution, mainly in the area of health.
Cuba´s initiatives were aimed at contributing both in terms of advice and in the direct efforts to prevent and control the pandemic, in the current phase of relative normality.
The meeting was closed with the adoption of a Joint Declaration of the respective Political and Economic Complementation Councils of the Alliance which, among other significant aspects, denounced the threats to peace in the region, demanded the immediate cessation of the application of unilateral coercive measures and urged the countries of the Alliance to put an end to the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.
The event became a stage for recognizing the contribution made by the Cuban medical cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 in all the member states of the Alliance, and in other countries of Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe, and condemned the actions undertaken by the Government of the United States to discredit it.
