Havana, July 10th, 2020. The director general of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad of Cuba's Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ernesto Soberon, announced on Thursday that some 70 flights guaranteed the return of Cuban citizens stranded abroad due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In Covid-19 times, 4,615 Cubans stranded in 49 countries have returned, as a result of 69 flights arranged by Cuban consulates and different counterparts in Cuba and abroad, Soberon explained on Twitter.
The number of returnees has been quantified from March 22 up to now, two days before the country's borders were closed due to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the cause of the disease.
As part of the government's program for the return of local citizens stranded in other nations, the previous week flights arrived from Spain, Haiti, Nicaragua, Mexico, Italy, and Antigua and Barbuda.
Soberon recently detailed that these arrivals will continue until regular flights are resumed, scheduled for phase three (the last) of post-pandemic recovery.
Upon arrival in Cuba, according to the health protocol, travelers move to isolation centers, where they remain for 14 days until ruling out a possible contagion of the disease, which affected 2,400 people and left 86 deaths.
