Addis Ababa, May 25, 2021. As part of the systematic dialogue between Cuba and Ethiopia on issues of common interest, the Ambassador of Cuba, Vilma Thomas Ramírez, met with the new Director General of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, HE Mr. Yoseph Kassaye, at the headquarters of that institution.
The diplomats agreed to qualify as positive the state of bilateral relations, based on the historical ties that unite the two countries and on the progress of various cooperation projects in areas of common interest. They also discussed the mutual support that their countries have provided each other in various multilateral forums, for the advancement of priority issues for both nations.
Ambassador Vilma Thomas, when referring to the vote on the Cuban resolution against the United States blockade against Cuba, scheduled for next June, discussed with the Ethiopian diplomat the negative consequences of that policy for her country, aggravated during the COVID -19 pandemic. In this regard, she updated the Ethiopian executive on the permanence of more than 240 measures taken by the Trump administration against Cuba, which have considerably affected the country's economy and the well-being of the Cuban people. She also explained about the unjust inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries that sponsor terrorism, by the previous US administration, in an unjustified act of political revenge taken to an unprecedented level.
Ethiopia, like the rest of the African countries, has consistently voted in support of the Cuban resolution against the blockade at the United Nations, which also has the endorsement of the resolutions adopted on the subject, for 12 consecutive years, by the Ordinary Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
