Ljubljana, 24 October 2019. The Director-General for Common Foreign and Security Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, H.E. Mr. Matej Marn received today the Ambassador of Cuba to that European country, H.E. Mr. Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios in the headquarters of the Ministry.
In the meeting, which took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, both authorities valued the positive state of the bilateral relations. It was and the appropriate framework provided but the current bonds between Cuba and the European Union. The Cuban side expressed its gratitude for the support offered by Slovenia to the process of negotiations and provisional implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the European Union.
The Ambassador also conveyed to the Director-General the gratitude of the Cuban people and government for the support received from Slovenia in rejecting the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
Both parties reiterated their mutual willingness to continue strengthening the historical bilateral ties existing between the two countries, whose bilateral relations have already reached 28 years and show progress in political-diplomatic, cultural, scientific, tourist sectors, among others. Potentialities have also been identified in the economic-commercial sectors.
The Ambassador also had a cordial meeting with H.E. Ms. Eva Tomič, Head of the Directorate of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, with whom he spoke about topics of interest on the international agenda.
The Slovenian authorities recognized the work of Ambassador Fernández Palacios at the conclusion of his four-year diplomatic mission to the Republic of Slovenia and wished him success in his future duties.
