On February 19, 2025, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera, accompanied by the Second Secretary, Abel Aballe, held a meeting with the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, within the framework of a visit to that Indian state. In the exchange, both parties ratified the interest in continuing to develop bilateral relations and to advance in the implementation of the agreements reached during the important visit to Cuba made by Vijayan, in June 2023, especially in the sectors of biotechnology, health, sports and education.
During the visit, the Cuban diplomat had the opportunity to exchange with the Minister of Public Works and Tourism of the State of Kerala, P.A Mohammed Riyas, where he highlighted the mutual interest in developing bilateral cooperation in promoting Cuba and Kerala as tourist destinations, among other initiatives.
In the meeting held with the Director of the Center for Latin American Studies and other executives of the University of Kerala, it was agreed to move forward in the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding between this center and the University of Havana, which will allow for the expansion of cooperation in several areas of bilateral interest.
The visit ended with the participation and address of both diplomats at the State Conference of the Federation of Students of India (FSI) in the state of Kerala, who expressed their gratitude for the approval, by acclamation, of a Resolution of solidarity with Cuba and condemnation of the criminal blockade by the United States. Within this framework, two books on the travel experience of leaders of that organization to our country were presented.
This brief visit contributed to continue promoting the relations of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Kerala.
