Nigeria, June 13, 2022.- Joining of the accredited diplomatic corps in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Cuban ambassador to this country, Clara M. Pulido Escandell, participated today in the morning in the act for the Day of Democracy, carried out in the "Eagle Square", the main square of Abuja, the capital of the country.

The act was presided over by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed magazines to the troops organized for the military parade. High-ranking representatives of the government and the armed forces were present, as well as representatives of organizations, agencies and military groups with a presence in the country.

Since 2018, this celebration has been held every June 12, marking the moment when the military handed over power to an elected civilian government in 1999, marking the beginning of the longest such administration since Nigeria's independence from British colonial rule in 1960.

Religious services were also held this Sunday at the National Mosque and other religious institutions, as part of the festivities.
