Ambassador of Cuba presents Credentials to the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, June 3, 2025.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez Álvarez, presented her Letters of Credence to the President of the country, H.E. Taye Atske-Selassie, at the Presidential Palace in Addis Ababa.

During the official ceremony, Ambassador Suárez Álvarez conveyed warm greetings from the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, as well as from the Cuban people. She reaffirmed the will to strengthen the historic ties of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity that have united Cuba and Ethiopia for five decades.

For his part, President Atske-Selassie emphasized the deep brotherhood that unites both peoples, recalling Cuba’s role of solidarity on the African continent, particularly in Ethiopia, where thousands of young Ethiopians were trained as professionals in Cuban universities. He also expressed his gratitude for the Island’s support at key moments in the country’s history.

The ceremony included the traditional honor guard and the playing of both national anthems, as well as a bilateral exchange in which common priorities for both countries were discussed.

Ambassador Suárez Álvarez expressed her commitment to actively work to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance South-South cooperation, as well as to defend the principles of multilateralism.
