Addis Ababa, January 20, 2025.- The Ambassador of Cuba-designate to the African Union, Lucas Domingo Hernández Polledo, presented his credentials to the President of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, accrediting him as Ambassador Permanent Observer of the Republic of Cuba to the continental organization.
During the delivery ceremony, Cuban Ambassador, Hernández Polledo thanked the African Union for its support in the continental lawsuit against the blockade imposed by the United States government on Cuba.
Hernández expressed his willingness to strengthen collaborative ties with the UA and independently with its member states in the educational, sports, biotechnology and medical spheres.
For his part, the President of the CUA praised the strong ties of friendship that unite Cuba with the countries of Africa. He also stressed that, despite the blockade, the Caribbean island has received thousands of African students and has been with Africa in its fight against colonialism.
Faki, reaffirmed Africa's unwavering support for the Government and people of Cuba in its fight against the blockade, while welcoming the recent announcement by the United States of its intention to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The Cuban Ambassador was accompanied by the Third Secretary of the Embassy, Natalys Dinza Utria.
