Ares and Gerardo represent Cuba in an exhibition of cartoons in Vienna

The works of the prestigious Cuban cartoonists Aristides Esteban Hernandez Guerrero (ARES) and Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo make up the exhibition of Caricatures of Ibero-American countries, inaugurated today at the Cervantes Institute in Vienna.

The exhibition, entitled "El Trazo", is an anthology of drawings by some of the best graphic comedians in Latin America, Spain and Portugal. It will remain open until July 6, 2018.

The Ambassador of Cuba in Austria, Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios and the team of the Diplomatic Mission participated in the opening of the exhibition, in which Cuban artists stand out for their fine humor and sharp criticism, pleasantly received by the audience.

Aristides Esteban Hernandez Guerrero (ARES). He has won 150 international awards, including Grand Prix of the World Press Cartoon, 2012 and the First Prize Ranan Lurie United Nations, 2015; for best cartoons published in the world. Nominated in 1994 by Witty World one of the best cartoonists in the world. He has published twenty-three books and illustrated more than ninety. He is currently Vice President of Graphic Humor of the International Institute of Journalism and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.

Gerardo Hernández Nordelo. Graduate of International Relations and caricaturist. He is currently Vice Chancellor of the Higher Institute of International Relations "Raúl Roa García" (ISRI). He developed extensive graphic work from the 80's, being a member of the Aspirina Group, which brought together important contemporary Cuban cartoonists. One of the Five Heroes of the Republic of Cuba, anti-terrorist fighter, who suffered unjust imprisonment in the United States for 16 years; released on December 17, 2014. He has published the books: humor and love everything can, in 2002 and humor from my pen, in 2015.

In addition to ARES and Gerardo, they integrate the sample: Liniers, from Argentina; Laerte, from Brazil; Marcelo Escobar, from Chile; Vladdo, from Colombia; Mecho, from Costa Rica; Pancho Cajas, from Ecuador; Ruz, from El Salvador; El Roto, from Spain; Abel Quezada and Paco Calderón, from Mexico; Lowi, from Panama; Robin Wood and Roberto Goiriz, from Paraguay; Pancho Fierro, Jorge Vinatea Reynoso and Elena Izcúe, from Peru; André Carriho, from Portugal; Rafael de los Santos, from the Dominican Republic and Lucía Borjas and Jimena Merchán, from Venezuela.

With this exhibition the activities of the Ibero-American Club of Vienna begin, formed by the diplomatic representations of the countries of Ibero-America in the Austrian capital; whose purpose is the realization of joint projects in the sectors of culture and science.
