Vienna, January 2. A commemorative event marking the 67th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution was held today at the headquarters of the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG). The event was attended by members of the ÖKG's steering committee and partners, the Cuban Embassy in Austria, and friends of the solidarity movement, who gathered to reaffirm their support for Cuba and its people.
In their speeches, both Hermann Pernerstorfer, President of the ÖKG, and Pablo Berti Oliva, Cuban Ambassador to Austria, agreed in highlighting the excellent state of cooperation between the solidarity organization and the Embassy. They emphasized that this fruitful relationship is a fundamental pillar for the work of denouncing the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba and for promoting the truth about the Caribbean country in Austria.
President Pernerstorfer reaffirmed the ÖKG's ongoing commitment to the just cause of the Cuban people. In his speech, he stressed that 2026 represents an important opportunity to redouble efforts and work for Cuba, as it has been proclaimed the Year of the Centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. He affirmed that this anniversary will inspire new actions of solidarity, dissemination of his legacy, and demands for the lifting of the unjust blockade.
For his part, Ambassador Berti Oliva expressed his deep gratitude for the tireless support of the Austrian solidarity movement and echoed the assessment of the significance of the current year. He praised the monumental figure of Fidel Castro, emphasizing the absolute relevance of his thinking, example, and confidence in victory to guide Cuba through its current challenges. He stressed that the best tribute to his centenary is to continue defending sovereignty and building the just society for which he fought so hard.
The event, held in an atmosphere of fraternity, served to renew the ties of friendship between Cuba and Austria and to honor, on this national holiday, the legacy of the Cuban Revolution and its historic leader.
