The Austrian Labor Party and Its Youth Wing Honor Fidel Castro on His 100th Birthday

Vienna, August 13, 2026 – The Austrian Labor Party (PdA) and its youth organization, the Jugendfront, issued a joint statement today on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Fidel Castro Ruz, in which they extol his legacy as “a great communist, internationalist, and leader of the Cuban Revolution” and reaffirm their unconditional solidarity with the Cuban people in the face of the U.S. blockade.

The statement highlights the legacy of the Commander-in-Chief and emphasizes that the Cuban Revolution—which began with the assault on the Moncada Barracks in 1953 and was consolidated in 1959—stands as an example of anti-imperialist resistance and socialist construction under adverse conditions. “Under Fidel’s leadership, Cuba implemented agrarian reforms, nationalized key sectors, eradicated illiteracy, and built a high-quality health and education system—all while facing the Bay of Pigs invasion, assassination attempts, and a criminal blockade that persists and has intensified.”

The PdA and the Jugendfront conclude with a quote from Fidel himself from 1992: “What meaning would our lives have, what future would our people have without socialism and the revolution?” and reaffirm their commitment to working for an end to the blockade and the defense of Cuban sovereignty. The statement joins the numerous tributes to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution around the world.
