Austrian youth join International Declaration in support of Cuba against the blockade

Vienna, February 16. Two youth organizations in Austria have confirmed their support for the recent “Joint Statement by Communist and Anti-Imperialist Youth Organizations” in support of Cuba, in a move that reflects growing solidarity activism with the island in the European country.

The Youth Front (Jugendfront), the youth wing of the Austrian Labor Party (PdA), announced today through its official platforms that it is joining this international initiative. The organization released excerpts from the collective statement, which makes an explicit appeal: “We call on the youth of all countries to intensify their commitment and express solidarity with the Island of the Revolution by demanding an end to the threats and the barbaric blockade on the island.”

This is not the first statement by the Jugendfront in support of the Caribbean nation. On February 1, the organization had already issued its own statement expressing its full support for Cuba and its rejection of the Executive Order signed by Donald Trump, which tightened sanctions against the island.

For its part, the Communist Youth of Austria (KJÖ) has also joined the joint statement. The KJÖ is now on the list of 31 youth organizations that have so far endorsed the document.

The organization has complemented its endorsement with a statement issued in early February setting out its positions, as well as multiple messages on social media confirming its condemnation of the US government's actions against Cuba and reaffirming its support for the Cuban people.

These expressions of solidarity come in response to the recent Executive Order signed by US President Donald Trump, which imposes a total oil embargo on Cuba, making it impossible to purchase fuel and seriously threatening all aspects of life on the island, from electricity generation to transportation, food production, and basic services for the population.
