New Delhi, India December 13th 2016. Bangladesh and Cuba have discussed various aspects of bilateral issues and the potential for expanding trade and business ties between the two countries.
This was examined when the designate Ambassador to Bangladesh Oscar Martinez Cordoves, head of the Cuban delegation at the Global Forum on Migration and Development held in Dhaka, called on Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali on last Sunday on the sidelines the global meeting on migration.
Foreign Minister Ali informed the Cuban delegation leader about different exportable items from Bangladesh especially readymade garments, pharmaceuticals and healthcare services.
He also termed the relationship between the Father of the Bengali Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Cuban leader Fidel Castro as “a special one”. In this regard, he recalled an emotional remark of Fidel Castro about Bangabandhu, "I have not seen the Himalayas. But I have seen Sheikh Mujib. In personality and courage, this man is the Himalayas. I have thus had the experience of witnessing the Himalayas".
Fidel Castro made this remark while hugging Bangabandhu during their meeting at the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Algiers in 1973.
Ambassador Cordoves appreciated for the condolence message sent by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Cuban President Raul Castro Ruz after the death of Fidel. (BangladeshNews-EmbacubaIndia)
