Both Prime Minister Mia Mottley and the new Attorney General, Wilfred Abrahams, were sworn in today, February 12, before President Jeffrey Bostic, and the rest of the Cabinet members will be sworn in next Monday, February 16, 2026. Barbados' Prime Minister Mia Mottley, leader of the Barbados Labour Party, won the Caribbean country's general elections on February 11, 2026, for the third consecutive time, again securing all 30 seats in Parliament. The results obtained by Mottley are virtually identical to those of the 2018 and 2022 elections, when she also easily defeated the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), which has not won any seats in Parliament since the 2013 elections.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has reiterated her commitment to moving towards a fairer Barbados, with more opportunities and a reduction in poverty, as well as strengthening democratic institutions, at a symbolic moment marking 76 years since the establishment of universal suffrage on the island.
Ralph Thorne, leader of the opposition Democratic Labour Party (DLP), had to concede defeat, despite expressing satisfaction with his party's campaign for bringing issues of concern to the people of Barbados into the public debate. Nevertheless, the BLP's resounding victory highlights the difficulties faced by the opposition, particularly the DLP, and strengthens the position of Prime Minister Mia Mottley, recognized regionally and internationally for her activism on issues such as climate change and the restructuring of developing country debt.
