Board Members of the Museums Association Visit the Embassy of Cuba in Trinidad and Tobago

Port of Spain, April 7, 2026. The Ambassador of Cuba to Trinidad and Tobago, Gustavo Véliz Olivares, received members of the Board of the Museums Association of Trinidad and Tobago during a courtesy visit at the diplomatic mission. During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on Cuba’s extensive network of museums, as well as UNESCO-recognized heritage sites and the country’s programs for the restoration and conservation of cultural assets.

For their part, the representatives of the Association provided an update on the museums in Trinidad and Tobago, their main characteristics, and the country’s heritage sites, along with perspectives for their expansion and strengthening. The discussions also highlighted the potential for bilateral cooperation in areas such as museology, conservation, and heritage management, with a view to fostering exchange and professional training.

The delegation was led by the President of the Museums Association of Trinidad and Tobago, Nimah Muwakil-Zakuri, a graduate of Santiago de Cuba in 2011. She was accompanied by Kara Roopsingh, Vice President; Jaime Bagoo, Board Secretary; and Peter Corbie, Director of Advocacy and Sector Development.
