Broad Expressions of Solidarity with Cuba during the Canadian Labour Congress Convention

Winnipeg, May 15, 2026. – The Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Cuba in Canada, Dany Tur de la Concepción, carried out an extensive program of meetings and exchanges with political representatives, trade union leaders, and solidarity organizations during the 31st Convention of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC).

The Cuban diplomat addressed sessions of the major Canadian labour forum and held meetings with New Democratic Party MPs Leah Gazan and Jenny Kwan, whom he briefed on the current situation facing the Cuban people, further aggravated by the recent measures adopted by the United States government.

He also met with Jen Hassum, Executive Director of the Broadbent Institute, to discuss issues of common interest related to social justice, international solidarity, and the defense of workers’ rights.

Particularly noteworthy were the meetings held with trade union leaders from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), Public Services International (PSI), the London District Labour Council, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), the Hamilton District Labour Council, the British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF), the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), the United Steelworkers, and the Toronto and York Region Labour Council, among others.

As part of the solidarity activities, the event “Labour Stands with Cuba” was held in Winnipeg, sponsored by the Canadian Network on Cuba and the Manitoba-Cuba Solidarity Committee, bringing together trade union representatives, activists, and friends of Cuba. During the gathering, participants reiterated their support for the Cuban people and denounced the United States blockade against Cuba as an illegal policy that continues to severely affect the daily lives of millions of Cubans.

The participation of the Cuban delegation in these events reaffirmed the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and the Canadian labour and solidarity movements.
