Canada-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group held annual meeting

The Canada-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group held its Annual General Meeting this afternoon, a space that served to exchange on the state of relations between the Parliaments of both states and to continue strengthening them.

In the presence of Deputies and Senators, an assessment was made of the main activities carried out by the Group and its projection for 2025, the year that will mark the 80th anniversary of bilateral ties between Cuba and Canada. Likewise, a new Executive Committee was elected with premise is to continue the work of the Friendship Group with Cuba. Congressman Gabriel Ste-Marie and Senator Nancy Hartling co-chaired this Committee.

In his speech at the event, the Ambassador of Cuba, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz was pleased to be invited to such an important meeting and referred to the existing potentialities to continue developing the ties between our governments and peoples. He made a special mention to the current situation of the country, largely caused by the economic blockade imposed by the U.S. and its policy of financial and energy persecution. In this regard, he thanked Canada for its traditional support to the resolution presented by Cuba against this policy in the framework of the UN General Assembly.

Dany Tur de la Concepción, Deputy Head of Mission, and Mariset Vazquez, Second Secretary, also participated in the meeting on the Cuban side.
