The Canadian Union of Public Employees stands in solidarity with the Cuban people

July 2, 2026. - Cuba’s ambassador to Canada, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, held a meeting with Mark Hancock, president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. 

During the meeting, they discussed the effects of the U.S. embargo against Cuba, particularly the new executive orders issued by the U.S. administration that intensify the collective punishment to which the U.S. has subjected the Cuban people.

Ambassador Malmierca expressed his gratitude for the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ longstanding stance and, in particular, for the organization’s most recent statements in support of the Cuban people.

Also present at the meeting were Kelti Cameron, CUPE’s International Solidarity Officer, and the Deputy Head of the Cuban Mission, Dany Tur de la Concepción.
