The Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster Management Agency (CDEMA), Mr. Ronald Jackson, accepted the invitation by the Cuban Ambassador to Barbados, Francisco Fernandez, to designate a representative for the Workshop on Local Disaster Management, which be held in the Havana from 26 to 30 October. It thus complies with one of the agreements reached at the CARICOM-Cuba Summit to ensure that all member countries of the Community and its specialized agencies receive adequate training in this area. Organized and funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) of Cuba and its Center for Capacity Development for Reducing Disaster Risk and Adaptation to Climate Change (CRDAC), the workshop aims to contribute to training and exchange of experiences in the process of decision making on adaptation and mitigation of severe consequences of climate change in the Caribbean. This practice has been carried out on an annual basis and has demonstrated effectiveness and efficiency in such a sensitive area small island states.
