Addis Ababa, May 14, 2025.- In a vibrant tribute to the Spanish language, the embassies of Spanish-speaking countries accredited in Ethiopia celebrated Spanish Language Day at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), with a day full of culture, identity and shared memory.
The diplomatic representations of Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, Mexico, Nicaragua, Equatorial Guinea, Venezuela, Spain and Uruguay, offered a unique experience between traditional dances, musical presentations, book exhibitions and linguistic expressions that reflect the richness of Spanish in each nation.
In a particularly emotional moment, students from Cambridge Academy Elementary School performed the emblematic "Guantanamera" and recited verses by Cuban National Hero José Martí, as a tribute to both the language and the memory of the hero, a few days before the 130th anniversary of his fall in combat on May 19. The Embassy of Cuba accompanied the occasion with a special exhibition dedicated to Martí's legacy.
The UNECA library became a meeting space where the Spanish language shone as a bridge of cultural identity and international cooperation, celebrating its strength, diversity and validity on the African continent.
