On June 9, the Chairman of the Liberian Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Honorable Abraham Darius Dillon, received the Cuban Ambassador, Dr. Indira López Arguelles.
The diplomat briefed the Senator on the state of Cuba-U.S. relations, the devastating effects of the intensified blockade, the energy embargo, and the threats of military action by the current U.S. administration against the Cuban people. The Ambassador, carrying a letter from the President of the Caribbean Parliament, requested the support of Liberian legislators in publicizing the situation on the island and denouncing the attacks against Cubans.
Senator Dillon reiterated his support for the Cuban people against the U.S. blockade, reaffirmed the island's right to sovereignty and self-determination, and expressed his interest in working to strengthen cooperation between the two nations. He thanked the Cuban doctors for their crucial support during the Ebola outbreak and stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between Liberia and Cuba.
