Support for Cuba's Resolution at the United Nations General Assembly

The National Secretariat of the Comunist Party of India has issued the following statement:

The Comunist Party of India (CPI) expresses its firm and unwavering solidarity with the heroic people of Cuba and the socialist government led by the Communist Party of Cuba as the United Nations General Assembly considers, for the Thirty-third time, the draft resolution entitled "Necessity of putting an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposided by the United States of America against Cuba".

For more than six decades, the illegal and unilateral blockade imposed by the United States has inflicted immense economic hardship on Cuba and its people, obstructing their right to development and violating international law and the Charter of the United Nations. Despite there hostile actions, Cuba has stood as a beaon of dignity, sovereignty, and socialist commintment, continuing to contribute selflessly to international solidarity solidarity through its medical, educational, and humanitarian missions across the world.

Year after year, the overhelming majority of the UN member states have voted in support of Cuba's resolution, isolating the United States and its few allies who persist i defending this unjust policy. Yet, the U.S. administration continues to resort to blackmail, threats, and coercion in an attempt to influence the votes of sovereign nations, including those of the Global South. Such acts of pressure are a violation not only of Cuba's rights but also of the sovereignty and independent foreign policy of all nations.

The Comunist Party of India strongly condemns these renewed efforts of the United States to manipulate the international community against Cuba. The CPI calls upon the Government of India to once again stand on the right side of history -to uphold the principles of non-alignment, anti-imperialism, and solidarity with the developing world- by voting in favour of Cuba's resolution and demanding the immediate and unconditional lifting of the criminal blockade.

The CPI also expresses solidarity with the worldwide campaign from October 27th until the conclusionof the UN vote, when progressive, democratic, and anti-imperialist movements across continents will unite demand an end to this inhumane policy and to reaffirm the right of Cuba to choose its own path of development free from external interference.

Long live the friendship between India and Cuba!

End the U.S. blockade of Cuba now!
