Vienna, August 13, 2026 – The Communist Youth of Austria (KJÖ) issued a statement on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, in which it reaffirms its commitment to the Cuban Revolution and highlights the enduring relevance of the historic leader’s legacy in the struggle against imperialism. In the statement, the youth organization emphasizes that Fidel “is not just a figure from the past, but a guide for new generations fighting for a more just world.”
The KJÖ’s statement highlights the relevance of Fidel’s ideas in the face of the intensifying U.S. blockade against Cuba and denounces the unilateral coercive measures aimed at suffocating the Cuban people. The Austrian youth organization expresses its solidarity with the island and calls for intensified international support, at a time when the international community is commemorating the centennial of Fidel’s birth.
The statement joins the many commemorative activities taking place in Austria and around the world to honor Fidel Castro on his centennial, reaffirming that his example of rebellion, internationalism, and the struggle for social justice continues to inspire progressive movements and militant youth on every continent.
