The Communist Youth of Austria (Kommunistische Jugend Österreichs, KJÖ) has issued a statement of firm solidarity with Cuba and strong condemnation of the new aggressive escalation by the US government, describing the recent measures as “another step in the criminal economic blockade against Cuba.”
In its statement entitled “Let's defend socialist Cuba against US aggression!”, the youth organization rejects Washington's justification, denouncing President Donald Trump's declaration of a “national emergency” based on what it considers “one of the most blatant lies”: the alleged threat that Cuba poses to the United States.
The KJÖ warns that the real objective of this maneuver is to “impose punitive tariffs on other states that supply oil to Cuba,” seeking to collapse the island's energy supply. It stresses that oil is vital to all areas of life in Cuba and that, by jeopardizing it, the United States is “attempting to force socialist Cuba to surrender” and “impose its imperialist hegemony,” threatening the entire population.
In the face of this offensive, the statement emphasizes that Cuba will not be intimidated and remains steadfast, backed by the massive support of its people and the international solidarity of progressive forces.
