The US Deputy Director-General of Minrex, Alejandro García del Toro, gave statements to Granma about it.
The Granma newspaper, in exchange this morning with the US deputy director general. of Minrex, Alejandro García del Toro, inquired about recent foreign press publications on meetings between US officials. and Cuba in Havana.
García del Toro said: It is a sensitive issue that, as we have said, we handle with discretion.
But I can confirm that a meeting was recently held here in Cuba between delegations from Cuba and the United States. On the US side, deputy secretaries from the State Department participated and on the Cuban side, at the level of deputy minister of foreign affairs.
In the framework of the meeting, neither party set deadlines or made any demands, as has been mentioned by US media. The entire exchange was done in a respectful and professional manner.
The removal of the energy fence against the country was a top priority for our delegation. This act of economic coercion is an unjustified punishment of the entire Cuban population. It is also a global blackmail against sovereign states, which have every right to export fuel to Cuba under the rules governing free trade.
