Constitution of Ethiopia-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group

Addis Ababa, August 30, 2023. The constitution of the Ethiopia-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group strengthens the long-standing relations between the two countries and the defense of common positions in international scenarios.

After the constitution of the Group, its members were received at the headquarters of the Embassy of Cuba in Ethiopia, a meeting that allowed them to discuss the main aspects of the bilateral relationship and provide a broad update on Cuba.

The ambassador of Cuba, Jorge Lefebre Nicolás, updated the group on the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for more than 60 years by the United States government and addressed the issue of the inclusion of the island in the US list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

The diplomat recalled that Ethiopia, like Cuba, knows the effects of the sanctions imposed by Washington, hence solidarity among peoples plays a fundamental role in denouncing these extraterritorial measures in international forums.

On the other hand, the president of the Association of Friendship between the Peoples of Ethiopia and Cuba, Abebe Ayelew, also present at the meeting, told Prensa Latina his gratitude to the Parliament for the constitution of this group that will contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.
