The Consul General of Cuba in Toronto paid a working visit to the province of British Columbia.

From May 28 to June 3, the Consul General of Cuba in Toronto, Jorge Yanier Castellanos Orta, paid a working visit to British Columbia. During his stay in the province, the Cuban diplomat carried out an extensive program in the cities of Victoria and Vancouver, which included meetings with government and parliamentary authorities, solidarity groups, and Cuban residents in the territory, among others.

At the provincial Legislative Assembly headquarters, the plenary session welcomed the Cuban Consul, also received by its President, the Honorable Raj Chouhan. During this visit, the Cuban flag flew at the iconic Legislative Building, a further sign of respect and affection on the 80th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations.

The Cuban diplomat held fruitful meetings with Lucy Lobmeier, Chief of Protocol; Susie Chant, Parliamentary Secretary responsible for the Consular Corps accredited in this province; Minister of State for Trade Rick Glumac; and officials from the ministries of Health and Energy and Climate Solutions. All the meetings were a warm environment to explore ways to expand and strengthen bilateral relations.

He also participated in activities organized by representatives of the Cuban community in the province. There, he discussed the situation on the Caribbean island and the effects of the blockade, as well as the importance of the active contribution of Cubans living abroad to the country's economic development.

The visit's work program concluded with an event celebrating the 21st anniversary of the Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba organization, attended by various solidarity groups, non-governmental organizations, Cuban residents, and other friends of Cuba.
