The Consul General of Cuba in Toronto, Jorge Yanier Castellanos Orta, together with Consul Tania Valenzuela Veiga, offered a virtual conference on the Cuban experience in the course on global sexual and reproductive health rights to fourth year graduate students in health sciences at McMaster University, located in the city of Hamilton.
During their interventions, the Consuls referred to the work of CENESEX in Cuba, the process of adoption of the Family Code, the content that this new law regulates, as well as sexual and reproductive rights under the Family Code and our Constitution.
The conference provided an opportunity for exchanges with university professors and students, who were interested in learning more about Cuban society.
The consuls explained some of the transformations that have occurred in Cuban society and how the current Family Code reflects this reality and provides protection to all of society, especially the most vulnerable sectors such as children, adolescents, the elderly and people with disabilities.
The Consul General took advantage of the occasion to condemn the economic and commercial blockade unjustly imposed by the U.S. on Cuba, illustrating with examples how this policy has a negative impact on Cuban society, and at the same time he thanked those present for the opportunity and their interest in learning a little more about Cuba and its achievements in the field of health.
