At the Toronto City Hall, Mayor Olivia Chow held a working meeting with the consuls general of Latin America. The main objective of the meeting was to analyze and explore the best ways to expand bilateral relations.
Olivia Chow made a presentation on the current situation of the city and its metropolitan area, impacted by the tariff policies of the new U.S. administration, identified the main challenges, and was interested in learning the best ways to facilitate participation in the new context of the consulates and communities represented. The mayor reaffirmed her willingness to move forward in working with the extensive consular corps accredited in the city.
The Consul General of Cuba in Toronto, Jorge Yanier Castellanos Orta, highlighted the importance of the city and its metropolitan area for the Cuban community, especially for being one of the places of greatest concentration, where Cuban family historically has made an important contribution to its development. He also highlighted the excellent relations between our peoples and governments, which this year celebrate the 80th anniversary of uninterrupted diplomatic relations, and reaffirmed the willingness of the Cuban authorities to strengthen bilateral relations and support the city in facing some of its main challenges, for which we have qualified personnel and positive experiences.
