Monrovia, October 18, 2022 - Inspired by initiatives within the framework of the celebration of the Day for Cuban Culture, the Cuban Embassy in Liberia, headed by its Chief of Mission Mercedes L Martinez Herrera, developed the seminar "Fidel Castro, promoter of Cuban Culture".
This initiative has managed to disseminate the undeniable commitment of our Commander in Chief with Cuban culture.
Not in vain did Miguel Barnet once said: "The architect of Cuban cultural policy, the manager, is Fidel.... We owe all the cultural options we have today to Fidel".
In times of great complexity for the Revolution, Fidel Castro said that culture was the shield and the sword of the nation. Fidel made Martí's words his own: "Trenches of ideas are worth more than trenches of stone" and added: "without identity (without culture) there is no possible freedom".
The initiative also collects phrases that, throughout the Revolution, the historic leader said about Cuban culture:
"Culture will cease to be a matter of elite when it belongs to all the people". Fidel (1967)
"One of the fundamental purposes of the Revolution is to develop art and culture, precisely so that art and culture become a true patrimony of the people." Fidel (1961)
"A revolution educates, a revolution fights ignorance and inculturation, because in ignorance and inculturation are the pillars on which the whole edifice of lies, the whole edifice of misery, the whole edifice of exploitation is sustained." Fidel (1961)
"Human culture begins with justice among men, brotherhood among men, solidarity among men. Culture begins by placing man at the center, the objective of the effort. And a society that turns man into an instrument, an object, cannot be called cultured". Fidel (1972)
"A people will be stronger, will have a more secure future, the more culture, the more training it has in all areas; but above all, the more political culture, the more revolutionary culture that people has". Fidel (1972)
"Without culture there is no possible freedom. The certainty of that thought, which is not limited to artistic culture, but implies the concept of an integral general culture, including professional preparation and elementary knowledge of a wide range of disciplines related to science, literature and humanities, encourages our efforts today". Fidel (2002)
Fidel Castro laid the foundational foundations of what over the years has shaped the cultural policy of the Cuban Revolution.
