Vienna, August 12, 2026.—Cuba’s Ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, held a virtual meeting with the Croatia–Cuba Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
During the exchange, the Cuban diplomat explained the current situation in Cuba to the Croatian lawmakers, placing special emphasis on the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States in 2026, as well as on the growing threats against the island.
The ambassador explained the measures adopted by the Cuban government to address this complex situation, including the impacts resulting from the energy blockade, which has caused severe limitations in electricity supply, food production, and the functioning of essential services such as health care and education.
The group’s chairman, Tonči Restović, reaffirmed that Croatia, as a member of the European Union, opposes the application of unilateral coercive measures against Cuba. He also reiterated his firm commitment to continuing to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two peoples.
The group began its term on May 16, 2024, as part of the 11th legislative session of the Croatian Parliament and is composed of 20 parliamentarians from various political parties.
