Zagreb, July 8. The Socialist Workers Party of Croatia (SRP) issued a new communiqué condemning the United States for the recent strengthening of sanctions and the blockade against Cuba.
The communiqué expresses that, the decision, taken by Donald Trump's administration constitutes a systematic violation of international law and the human rights of the Cuban people that prevents them from accessing medicines, medical equipment, food and basic necessities, which represents a collective punishment against the civilian population and directly threatens the lives of innocent people. This policy is unjustified, immoral and contrary to all principles of interpersonal solidarity.
The SRP regretted that the application of sanctions and blockades are weapons of frustrated imperialist powers that attempt to break the will of peoples who refuse to bow to threats and accept the will of others. Cuba, however, has been demonstrating for decades that sovereignty and dignity are not for sale.
The communiqué condemns the permanence of the blockade which it describes as one of the most lasting and inhumane examples of collective punishment of a country in modern history.
Finally, the text notes that, the Socialist Workers Party of Croatia urges the Croatian government and the European Union to openly and principledly condemn the new wave of U.S. aggression and to take concrete steps to lift all sanctions and blockades. "The EU must not be a silent accomplice to this injustice. In particular, we demand the urgent removal of Cuba from the U.S. list of “state sponsors of terrorism,” a false and politically motivated label that only serves as a pretext for a criminal blockade," the communiqué dictates.
"We are convinced that the Cuban people, guided by the principles of solidarity, justice and sovereignty, will succeed in overcoming these challenges, as they have done in the past. The SRP stands with Cuba in the struggle against imperialist aggression and for a just world, free of hegemony and blackmail," the communiqué concludes.
The Socialist Workers Party of Croatia was established on October 25, 1997 and has maintained its solidarity with Cuba throughout these years. During 2025, the PSR has issued three communiqués in which it calls for the elimination of the blockade of Cuba and its removal from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
