Vienna, March 29. The Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Organization for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBTO), Dr. Robert Floyd, began an official visit to Cuba that will last until next Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
During the working visit to Havana, the Senior Executive of the Vienna-based organization will carry out a broad work agenda, which includes meetings with national authorities and executives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), among others. In addition, he plans to deliver a Master Conference at the Instituto Superior de Relaciones Internacionales (ISRI) “Raúl Roa García”.
The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) was approved by the General Assembly on September 10, 1996. Cuba ratified the Treaty on February 4, 2021.
The Preparatory Organization verifies the total prohibition of nuclear testing and complements the Treaty. The latter, together with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (Treaty of Tlatelolco), is part of the international system of non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament, of which Cuba is an active supporter.
