Madam President:
The United States government knows no other way to justify its hostile policy against Cuba than to resort to constant lies. We all know that the United States government is a pathological liar. But they are not fooling anyone.
It is clear that they are not in the least concerned about the fate of our people nor about their human rights, which the blockade undermines like nothing else.
Nor are they interested in regional peace which they threaten with their irresponsible military deployment in the Caribbean Sea.
In order to inflict suffering on the Cuban people, they are capable of enduring repeated isolation in this General Assembly.
With utter cynicism, they attempt to blame our government to divert attention from the comprehensive effects of their sustained policy of strangulation. No one can doubt the United States' capacity to undermine the economic stability of any country. This is currently evident in the imposition of tariffs on numerous countries around the world. In our case, they have been doing so for over 60 years.
Madam President:
The unjustifiable inclusion of Cuba on the arbitrary, fraudulent, and unilateral list of states that supposedly sponsor terrorism is a measure aimed at strengthening the policy of maximum pressure against our people.
Everyone knows, including the United States security agencies, that Cuba does not sponsor terrorism, and that, on the contrary, we have been victims of this scourge, particularly that which has been organized, financed and protected from U.S. territory.
The United States deliberately distorts the issue of human rights in Cuba. There is no more flagrant, massive and systematic violation than the United States' blockade against Cuba.
The United States has no moral authority whatsoever to lecture Cuba, nor anyone else, on human rights. The government of that country is responsible for extrajudicial killings, kidnappings and torture. It hunts down and imprisons immigrants; militarizes major cities, and censors media outlets and journalists.
This is a country with a serious problem of citizen insecurity, violence and police brutality.
During the current U.S. administration, large-scale incarcerations, systematic racial discrimination, the wealth gap, xenophobia and other phenomena have worsened. These are alarming practices that dismantle any attempt by the U.S. government to portray itself as a human rights champion.
The United States demonstrates a profound ignorance of how the restricted trade between Cuba and the United States works, if it can even be called that.
If the United States were truly interested in trading with Cuba, it would listen to the majority of its citizens who support the unconditional lifting of the blockade and to Cuban residents who demand to assist their families in Cuba. This is what reason and justice dictate.
Madam President:
The United States government is blatantly lying when it accuses Cuba of being involved in “human trafficking”. We know that this narrative is nothing more than a pretext to continue strengthening the blockade against the Cuban people.
By harassing Cuban medical cooperation with mafia-like practices and direct blackmail of authorities in recipient countries, the United States jeopardizes the access to quality healthcare for hundreds of thousands of people.
Madam President:
I wish to make it absolutely clear that Cuba is not a party to the armed conflict in Ukraine or any other country. The Cuban government is aware that Cuban nationals, in imprecise numbers, have participated on their own initiative in the military operations of both sides in that conflict.
None of these nationals have the consent, encouragement or commitment of the Cuban government to participate in that conflict.
Madam President, in order to achieve its geo-strategic interests, the United States government has neither scruples nor ethics, nor any commitment to the truth. Within US discourse, there is not a valid argument nor one that enjoys the recognition of the members of the international community.
They prefer to remain isolated, as it has been demonstrated once again in this Assembly, subjected to the discredit generated by the permanence of the blockade during more than 60 years, rather than recognizing the failure in the attempt to destroy the Cuban Revolution.
In the face of the attempts to calumniate and destroy the humanist work of the Cuban Revolution, the people and government of Cuba will stand firmly in their steadfast decision to continue building a more just and solidary society.
