Harare, May 26, 2025 – Cuba today reiterated its historic and unwavering support for the African continent since its struggles for independence and development during the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of Africa Day in Zimbabwe.
Ambassador Susellys Pérez Mesa expressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honorable Prof. Amon Murwira, the Caribbean nation's position in favor of full reparation and compensation for the peoples affected by slavery and the transatlantic slave trade, as crimes against humanity.
During the exchange, within the framework of the African Union commemoration, the Head of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission extended her congratulations to Murwira and the Minister of Tourism, Barbara Rwodzi, on the occasion of this important anniversary.
Addressing the audience, the Zimbabwean Foreign Minister hailed the anniversary as a major event in the continent's history and in the struggle against colonialism, freedom, and independence. Murwira urged unity, solidarity, and dignity within the context of Pan-Africanism in the battle for justice as an essential complement to true liberation.
It is time to reflect on how to prevent a repeat of colonial brutality and slavery, but also to be aware that a better continent and world are possible and necessary, one that is peaceful, secure, and stable, the Minister emphasized.
Audiovisual and artistic performances from various nations complemented the evening at the Heritage Village of the African Liberation Museum in Harare.
