Cuba and Bayelsa sign Memorandum of Understanding.

Nigeria, July 6, 2022. The government of Bayelsa, an important Nigerian state, and the BioCubaFarma Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday aimed at establishing a long-term biopharmaceutical alliance for the co-production of vaccines and other drugs.

On behalf of the Nigerian delegation, the Bayelsa Health Commissioner, Pabara Newton Igwele, signed the MoU, and on behalf of the Cuban biopharmaceutical conglomerate, its first vice president, Mayda Mauri Pérez.

Seen as an example of South-South cooperation, the MoU provides the framework for collaboration in the supply by Cuba of pharmaceutical and biotechnological products, as well as technology transfer for the joint production in Bayelsa of these medicines, in particular vaccines, and its marketing in Nigeria and other West African states.

The Memorandum also contemplates research in this important field and the exchange of specialized personnel, as well as training.

BioCubaFarma, which brings together 31 companies on the island and others abroad on the basis of associations, exports medicines and biopreparations to 51 countries.
