Addis Ababa, July 18, 2026.- Cuba and Ethiopia today commemorate 51 years since the establishment of their diplomatic relations, a solid and enduring friendship that continues to strengthen on the basis of solidarity, mutual respect, and cooperation between two sister nations.
Since the official establishment of diplomatic ties on July 18, 1975, both countries have built an exemplary relationship, based on shared principles such as the defense of sovereignty, the self-determination of peoples, equality among states, and social justice.
For more than five decades, Cuba and Ethiopia have developed close collaboration in areas of particular importance such as health, education, human resource development, science, and other sectors of common interest. The training of thousands of Ethiopian professionals in Cuban institutions and the work of Cuban collaborators in Ethiopia are concrete expressions of cooperation based on mutual benefit and a commitment to development.
Both countries continue to share common ground on important issues on the international agenda and maintain close coordination in multilateral forums. Cuba expresses its gratitude for Ethiopia's firm support of the resolution calling for an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government, while Ethiopia recognizes Cuba's historic commitment to solidarity with the African continent.
On this anniversary, the governments of Cuba and Ethiopia reiterate their commitment to continue expanding and diversifying bilateral ties, promoting new opportunities for cooperation for the benefit of both peoples, and addressing, through unity and dialogue, the common challenges of the international arena.
These 51 years of diplomatic relations demonstrate the strength of a friendship built on trust, solidarity, and mutual respect. Cuba and Ethiopia look to the future with the firm determination to continue deepening a relationship that forms part of the historical heritage of both nations and that will continue to contribute to the well-being and development of their peoples.
