Addis Ababa, March 9, 2021. The Ambassador of Cuba, Vilma Thomas Ramírez, held a fruitful exchange today with members of the Committee on Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs of the House of People's Representatives (parliament) of Ethiopia, led by its President, the Honorable Dr. Negeri Lencho Bultum,
At the meeting, both parties highlighted the historical bilateral relations between Cuba and Ethiopia, and agreed on their interest in having this reflected in the expansion and strengthening of ties between the parliaments of both countries.
Likewise, the Ethiopian parliamentarians showed interest in continuing to promote the strengthening of cooperation with Cuba in various sectors such as education, health and biotechnology.
For her part, Ambassador Vilma thanked Ethiopia's invariable position against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, as well as the recent nomination of the Henry Reeve Brigade to the Nobel Peace Prize by the Vice President of the House of People's Representatives, Honorable Ms. Shitahe Minale, last December.
The exchange also addressed other issues related to the current situation in both countries, the challenges they face in the domestic and international spheres and the opportunities to strengthen the coordination of positions in multilateral forums of which both are part.
The encounter was the prelude to a meeting between the International Relations Committees of the Parliaments of both countries that should take place soon.
