The Cuban Embassy in Grenada held a commemorative event for the anniversary of the triumph of the Grenadian Revolution. The gathering, also dedicated to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro in the centennial year of his birth, evoked the significance of that historical process and reaffirmed the bonds of brotherhood that unite both Caribbean nations.
In addition to Cuban Embassy staff, those present at the event included Dr. Terrence Marryshow, coordinator of the Grenada-Cuba Friendship Association; Jorge Guerrero Veloz, Venezuelan Ambassador to Grenada; representatives of the Cuban state mission in the country; veterans of the Grenadian Revolution; and other members of the Grenada-Cuba Friendship Association.
In her opening remarks, the Cuban Ambassador, Yadirys Echenique Paz, emphasized that Cuban solidarity with Grenada, expressed through decades of work by Cuban doctors, teachers, and technicians, is a legacy that inspires the defense of Caribbean unity in the face of current challenges. The true strength of small nations lies in their capacity to share and resist together, the diplomat affirmed.
For his part, Dr. Terrence Marryshow recalled in his address the close relationship between Fidel Castro and the Grenadian Revolution and highlighted how the Cuban leader provided solidarity and support to Grenada at crucial moments and maintained a fraternal friendship with Maurice Bishop, a leader of that historic event.
During the event, young Grenadians who studied in Cuba expressed their gratitude for the welcome they received in Cuba during their university years.
The commemoration concluded with a call to strengthen Caribbean unity in the face of current challenges, particularly the escalating hostility of the United States against Cuba. Those present agreed on the need to raise the voice of the people of Granada to prevent the largest island in the Caribbean from becoming a victim of imperialist violence and coercion.
