Cuba and India held talks today on a broad agenda of issues in the multilateral field, as part of the regular diplomatic exchanges between both nations.
The General Director of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, chaired the Cuban delegation. The Indian delegation was headed by the H.E. Hon. Prakash Gupta, Joint Secretary of the United Nations Political Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of that country.
Among the issues addressed by the parties are the priorities of the Cuban Presidency of the Group of 77 and those of the Indian Presidency of the G-20; the challenges facing multilateralism today; the work of the Non-Aligned Movement; the impact of the arbitrary inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral list of countries that sponsor terrorism elaborated by the Department of State of the United States; cooperation between the two countries in terms of candidacies in international organizations, and other matters of mutual interest.
The fruitful meeting made it possible to verify the high level of convergence in the positions of both countries. The commitment of the parties to strengthening multilateralism and international cooperation, as well as the defense of the United Nations Charter and International Law, was ratified.
The Cuban representative thanked India for its firm support for Cuba's demands to lift the illegal and criminal US blockade.
The Cuban delegation was also made up of other directors and officials of the Foreign Ministry. The Ambassador of that country in Cuba, H.E. Dr S. Janakiraman; and other officials from the Indian External Affairs Ministry and the Embassy of that country in Havana.
Both parties agreed on the usefulness of the exchanges and agreed to continue them in 2024. (Cubaminrex)
