Addis Ababa, January 24, 2025.- Cuba's ambassador to the African Union, Lucas Domingo Hernández Polledo, held an appearance at the Kenyan Embassy in Addis Ababa, where he met with his Kenyan counterpart, George M. Orina.
Cuba and Kenya strengthen ties of humanity, friendship and cooperation in the meeting between Ambassadors of both nations. This space reaffirmed the mutual commitment to dialogue, solidarity and joint development, as well as the exploration of new opportunities for collaboration for the benefit of both peoples.
Ambassador Hernández highlighted the honor of sharing a space for dialogue and understanding between Cuba and Kenya, two nations that, despite their geographical distance, share mutual respect and a common vision of justice and international cooperation.
He also addressed about the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States government and the reinsertion of Cuba in the list of states that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
Hernández stressed that the blockade not only affects the Cuban people, but also the principles of sovereignty and equality on the global stage, affects trade and cooperation relations and restricts the development and quality of life of millions of people.
The Kenyan diplomat highlighted the historical ties and friendship between the two peoples and governments and reaffirmed Kenya's support for Cuba's fight against the blockade and for its removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Orina stressed that Cuba has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to international solidarity, an outstanding example is the exchange in the health sector, in particular the Cuban medical brigade program, he stressed "today more than ever unity among nations is vital to overcome global challenges, lifting the blockade is not only an act of justice towards Cuba but also an opportunity to strengthen the principles of multilateralism and mutual respect that we all share."
