Nigeria, April 30, 2022. As a result of the excellent work carried out by an important Nigerian delegation that traveled to Cuba to participate in the BioHabana2022 conference, the Nigerian ambassador to Cuba, His Excellency Ben Okoyen, and Dr. Eduardo Martínez, president of BioCubaFarma, signed an "Expression of Interest" agreement in biotechnology, an action that reveals steps of progress in bilateral relations between both countries.
During the event, a total of 18 agreements between companies of the BioCubaFarma group and Cuban and foreign entities were signed this week, which will allow strengthening the alliances of our country with the world, in the field of biotechnology. That was one of the results of the BioHabana-2022 International Congress, which concluded this Friday.
According to its organizers, BioHabana 2022 exceeded the expectations of its organizers, due to the fact that there were more than a thousand participants, including Cubans and foreigners, although 10% participated virtually; In addition, more than 600 papers were presented at conferences, short oral presentations and posters, despite the technological challenge involved in developing it in a hybrid way.
Currently, BioCubaFarma -the organizer of BioHabana- has 45 companies (31 in the national territory and 14 abroad), 20 science and technology units, 110 production facilities and more than 19,000 workers, while developing alliances with more than 60 countries. It is involved in the manufacture of 996 products, and has a portfolio of 27 drugs for the COVID-19 care protocol, of which 18 have emergency use authorization in the country.
Present at the closing of the Congress were Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, Vice Prime Minister, Marta Ayala Ávila, member of the Political Bureau and General Director of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, and Benaoyagha Bernard Mese Okoyen, Nigerian Ambassador to Cuba, among other personalities.
