Cuba and Zimbabwe value Parliamentary Relations

Harare, June 7, 2002 – Ambassador Susellys Pérez Mesa valued relations between the legislatures of Cuba and Zimbabwe with the Chair of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, Honorable Shamu Webster Kotiwani.

The diplomat and the head of the Friendship Group with Cuba discussed follow-up to what was agreed upon during the recent March visit to this capital by the President of the Council of State and the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández.

Pérez Mesa and Shamu discussed various initiatives to strengthen parliamentary friendship groups, as well as to work to confront the unilateral coercive measures in force against each country.

The Ambassador updated the US administration on the aggressive policy toward the Caribbean nation, particularly the recent actions and measures that go beyond and intensify the blockade.

He also acknowledged Zimbabwe's traditional support for Cuba's battle against the inhumane economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed more than six decades ago.

The opportunity was opportune to exchange views on the structure, functioning, and most recent actions of both parliaments.

The meeting, held at the new headquarters of Zimbabwe's legislature on the outskirts of Harare, was attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Zimbabwean parliament, as well as the Mission's Second Secretary, Zailin Gaulhiac Moráguez.
